Exciting news! Some amazing ladies, Jen of Strange Doom/Bad Moon Shop and Rachel of Red Antler Apothecary are launching a new venture: Hive & Forge. Located in the Old Firehouse in Salem, Mass, the space will be like nothing else in the town of Salem. Hive & Forge showcases artists, crafters, makers of things and collectors of goods, introducing them to the community of Greater Salem and visitors who come from all over the world to explore a very special story that is a big piece of American–and even more so, women’s–history.
About the Old Firehouse: The beautiful brick walls and doors are featured in the architecture, and it’s a big part of the story telling of Salem. Tours of Salem pass by, stop and talk about the firehouse and its deliciously spooky history. We’ll be sharing the space with a great neighbor and partner, East Regiment Beer Co. They produce some of the finest classic and modern style craft beers on the North Shore–when you come see us, stop by their taproom to try some beer and sample their food!
While things are still in the works, everything is coming together beautifully. Some of the other folks who have already signed on include Primal Adornments, Shady Tree Maker, and carmiclay. If you think this eclectic collective seems like a good spot to feature your creations or curations, you can apply for space here. We’re planning to open in September.
Several people have already asked me what types of things I plan on stocking at Hive & Forge. You KNOW my space will be chock-full of indie tarot and oracle decks, and you’ll be able to get your hands on sample decks because that’s how I roll. Will I have all the decks that are currently available online? Probably not to start with. Over time–maybe. You can definitely expect more patches, pins, spread cloths, jewelry, crystals and note cards, as well as vintage finds to enhance your sacred space.
I’m working on special display pieces for the space. Restoring old furniture to create magickal storage is part of my own creative process–I ask each piece I refinish to protect the goods inside and to help them find the people who are meant to own them. I’m having a great time and think everything’s going to look and feel amazing when it’s ready.
