Unboxing Madam Clara’s Fortune-telling cards

As soon as I saw the wonderful artwork on the box, I knew I needed this deck. I love anything with an old-school circus/carnival vibe. These definitely have that. It’s a fun, quirky deck, deeply rooted in the traditional Rider-Waite symbolism. I think this would be a solid starter deck for someone who wants to learn to read–while the messages printed on the cards only scratch the surface of the tarot’s complexity, this deck offers a solid introduction to the themes of each suit and the major arcana archetypes.

I’ve been using them for daily draws since July 29, shuffling the bejesus out of them, and in 5 days, I drew all the minor arcana sevens. Which completely fits where I’m at right now and lets me know this deck and I are going to have a strong bond. Here’s what she had to tell me in our interview. I used a deck interview spread I’ve seen a lot of others use.

Madam Clara tarot Deck interview1. Tell me about yourself. What is your most important characteristic?

Queen of Pentacles. This is a practical, down -to-earth deck who will give me motherly advice.

2. What are your strengths as a deck?

Page of Pentacles. The message on the card reads, “A dream endeavor will flourish into long-term success.” This deck is all about guiding me on how to take practical steps manifest my dreams in the physical plane. She’ll be great for guidance on all my business questions.

3. What are your limits as a deck?

Queen of Cups reversed. She has no tolerance for my moody Scorpio bullshit. So what if your feelings are hurt? Acknowledge it, then set that aside and move forward.

4. What are you here to teach me?

Seven of Cups. She’s here to help me choose wisely, even in situations where I want to purely follow my heart. She’ll help me temper that with practical insight so I can translate dreams into reality in the best possible way.

5. How can I best learn and collaborate with you?

Seven of Pentacles reversed. When this deck tells me something isn’t working, cut my losses and move on. Back away from the dead horse and focus elsewhere already. My obsessive personality will probably struggle here a bit.

6. What is the potential outcome of our working relationship?

Knight of Wands. Passion! Adventure! Confidence! Boldly and quickly moving forward. Amen.

Overall, I’m enjoying working with this deck. It’s got a sassy little personality with a sense of humor.
