To wrap up the pre-Yule posts, I checked in a with a few awesome magical souls to see what they’ve got on their wishlists this year and what they’re crushing out on this holiday season. Here’s what they had to say:
Lisa Estabrook | artist, creator of the Soulflower Plant Spirit Oracle
I want a yarn bowl, a long skinny hot water bottle I can wrap around my neck and a complete set of Caran d’ache watercolor pencils…. magical, right!
- This yarn bowl is at the top of my list, after breaking two ceramic ones…
- Neck warmer…..*sigh
- The Caran d’ache watercolor pencils: one of my absolute favorite art supplies. I usually buy the pencils one at a time from the local art supply store but one can dream right!
Robbi Packard | owner of the Robin’s Nest, a Metaphysical Community in all ways, for always!
I love handmade gifts. A friend gave me an early Yule gift, a painting of my dog Violet! So anything to do with Boston Terriers, really. And I love anything for my garden. Statuary, stones, plants, things like that. 🙂
Two things I am crushing on this holiday season are handcrafted aprons that I am making and small witch balls. I love that the witch balls can add a bit of magic to a holiday tree and then instead of being packed away can be hung up in a window to be enjoyed year-round. Every one is hand-crafted and unique. In addition, this year reminded me of how important it is to stay connected with our ancestors. For me, wearing an apron is a direct tie to my grandmother. I not only will wear these in the kitchen but I often wear them in the garden. I created a variety of funny friends to share this year to help people remember that while they are also practical, they can be fun and help inspire us to stay connected in many different ways.
Christopher Penczak | author, teacher, founder of the Temple of Witchcraft
For me, my shopping experience is mostly about books and magick. I recently found out a favorite author John Michael Greer has entered into the world of fiction with an H.P. Lovecraft-inspired series of novels called The Weird of Hali. I’m hoping someone gets me the first in the series for the holidays, The Weird of Hali: Innsmouth. It is a new twist on familiar occult horror these found in Lovecraft, but told from a different point of view.
My big book ask is an import from a UK publisher, Mandrake press, called Celestial Arcana: Precession, Tarot & the Secret Doctrine by Titus Salmon. It looks at the story of humanity through the stars, tarot and esoteric philosophy. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s a mix of all my favorite things.
Lastly would be anything that smells good from Alchemy Works, my favorite purveyor of handcrafted oils and incense. I already have the owner, Harold Roth’s book, The Witchy Herbs, but love his blends. Particularly excited to try out his new Heart of Saturn Oil and his Witchwood Oil is an old favorite.
Sarah Alden Jeror | owner of The Sunshine Fairy
I’m crushing on Zuzu’s Crystal of the month club. My wish list includes a pyrite sphere, new decks (I think I need the Sacred Creators Oracle), ocean jasper, Sacred Smoke: The Ancient Art of Smudging for Modern Times, and some Frankincense resin. I am getting myself a super cute Reiki-infused, crystal-filled bat from my friend Sarah Taylor. I’m making some luxurious bath salts for my mom, with epsom salt, Atlantic sea salt, Dr. Bronner’s, jojoba oil and one of my essential oil blends. Oh… I would also love one of Lisa’s Soulflower prints.
Arthur Wang | designer, illustrator, creator of the True Black Tarot
If I could get more time and an extra few hours in the day, that would be great, but I’ve got everything material that I want. I like nice stuff, I just have all the nice stuff I want for now… Although I would love a ’67 resto-modded Mustang!
My personal wishlist:
This year, I’m on a mission to de-clutter and create space in my life for the things that truly matter, so I’m hoping for experiential gifts that allow me to spend time with my favorite people. Think date to America’s Stonehenge, trip to an unusual art museum or exhibition, that sort of thing. Also, anything that helps me up my self-care game is a winner. I’m also a book nerd and would love a copy of Alice Hoffman’s latest release, The Rules of Magic. I’m crushing out on handmade gifts for friends and family… I’m having a great time hunting down things that represent special experiences, memories we share, or unique items that really reflect the recipients’ interests. I’d also love to find new partnerships and possibilities for growing Phoenix & Lotus this Yule.
Thanks so much to everyone who participated, and to everyone who has helped make this season truly magickal this year. Yule blessings to all!
